Burn wound depth is a significant determinant of patient treatment success and morbidity. Although superficial burns and deep burns are both easily classified by visual inspection, deep partial thickness burns can be difficult to assess. In general, visual inspections tend to overestimate the depth of the wound.
PeriScan PIM3 System offers a non-invasive and accurate option for assessing wound depth. Using laser Doppler, the blood perfusion in the wound area is measured. Results assist in the assessment of the severity and depth of the burn and also whether the burn will heal spontaneously or if it is necrotic.
