Amputation level determination

|
Amputations are costly for healthcare systems and traumatic for the affected patient. Correct amputation level is important to avoid secondary amputations and increased risk for the patient. Together with clinical criteria, objective measurements such as tcpO2, heat-controlled laser Doppler and skin perfusion pressure can assist in the identification of optimal amputation level to ensure proper healing. According to Inter-Society Consensus for the Management of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) (TASC II), up to 85% of amputations may be prevented by early detection and appropriate treatment.
