The PeriScan PIM 3 System is a laser Doppler blood perfusion imager. By scanning tissue with a low-power laser beam, color-coded images of the blood perfusion in the microvasculature are created. Measurements are less dynamic than with the probe-based single-point laser Doppler monitor. However, the advantage is that the microcirculation can be studied over a larger area, each image consisting of up to 255x255 discrete measurement points. Measurements are non-invasive and no physical surface contact is necessary.
The PeriScan PIM 3 System has many different microcirculatory applications in humans and animals. Common uses are burn wound assessment, non-healing wounds, flap surgery and development of skin care products. In animal research, the technique is commonly used for angiogenesis and stroke model research, or for imaging of organ blood perfusion during open surgery.
