Segmental pressures are similar to toe and ankle pressures with the addition of two or three blood pressure cuffs positioned on the upper and lower thigh and the upper calf. Segmental pressures can provide an initial indication of the anatomical location of arterial occlusive lesions. Segmental pressures are often combined with segmental pulse volume recordings (PVR).
PeriFlux System 5000 offers a solution to perform segmental pressures bilaterally. The blood pressure at each cuff location is measured by detecting the return of flow during linear deflation of the pressure in the cuff. A laser Doppler probe is used for detection and is positioned at the toe. A significant drop in pressure between two adjacent cuffs indicates a narrowing of the artery or blockage along the arteries in this portion of the leg. The same equipment can also be used for PVR measurements.
Features:
- Bilateral examination
- No need to re-position the laser doppler probe between measurements
- Possibility to add other complementary techniques such as transcutaneous oxygen (tcpO2/TCOM)
