Blood perfusion during maxillofacial surgery

Good blood perfusion is essential for a flap or transplant to survive. Skin flaps may be assessed by visual inspection, but it is not as simple with bone flaps/transplants. Using laser Doppler, the blood perfusion in the bone or medulla can be monitored before and after surgery. Even pulsatility or vasomotion can be observed. The setup can also assist in determining appropriate cutting regions in bone necrosis.
