A probe for every need

The high-quality Perimed laser Doppler probes allow the study of microcirculation in almost any organ or tissue. All probes are designed for PeriFlux 6000, PeriFlux System 5000 and PeriFlux System 4000.

Please contact Perimed for probes compatible with older PeriFlux laser Doppler models.

We offer a wide selection of probes as well as different types of disposable microtips for long-term implantation. All probes use a silica fiber with a core diameter of 0.125 mm. The probes are reinforced with Kevlar® for increased strength. Probes are available with fiber separations from 0.15 to 1.2 mm (standard separation is 0.25 mm) and a cable length of 2.50 m (other lengths available). Probes and microtips can be sterilized or disinfected.

SKIN PROBES

PROBE 404-1 Suturable Angled Probe

Multi-purpose, low-profile probe with one returning fiber. Especially suited for Skin Perfusion Pressure (SPP). It can be fixed to skin using double-sided tape strips or sutured. It can also be used invasively. Also available with extra returning fiber for increased sensitivity, especially when used on dark tissue and buried flaps

PROBE 407 Small Straight Probe

Multi-purpose probe for fitting into different small probe holders for different applications. The soft, flexible design of the fiber line reduces the influence of artefacts from moving subjects. PROBE 407 can be used on other tissues in certain applications. Probe holders: All PH 07-X Probe Holder

PROBE 413 Integrating Probe*

For areas with large spatial variation. The measuring area of the probe has seven “probe tips”. Each of the “probe tips” has one transmitting fiber and two receiving fibers. The values from all “probe tips” are optically integrated into one value. Not for use with PeriFlux 6000.

Skin Probes with Heating Capability

PROBE 457 Thermostatic Small-Angled Probe

A combined laser Doppler and thermostatic probe for simultaneous blood perfusion measurement and local heat provocation. Double-sided tapes are used for fixation. The probe is watertight and can be kept in water for several hours.

PF 450 Thermostatic Probe Holder

Use with PROBE 408 and PROBE 413 to allow for local heating combined with blood perfusion measurements. Insert the probe into the center hole of the thermostatic probe holder. PROBE 408 requires an additional distance ring. The thermostatic probe holder is fixed to the skin with double-sided tape rings.

INVASIVE PROBES

PROBE 402 Needle Probe

For acute invasive measurements. The tip (diameter 0.45 mm) can be introduced directly into the tissue to the desired depth or inserted through a 22 G/0.6 I.D. cannula. See also PROBE 411.

Tissue: Invasively in most organs and tissues

PROBE 403 Stainless Steel Probe

The support of the probe is designed to fit into a micromanipulator or laboratory stand for exact positioning. Convenient for measurements of animal organs.

Tissue: Surface of inner organs

PROBE 404-1 Suturable Angled Probe

For acute invasive measurements. The support is designed to fit into a micromanipulator or laboratory stand for exact positioning. The tip is thin (0.45 mm) for easy penetration of tissue such as animal brain. See also PROBE 402

PROBE 418-1 Master Probe*

Can easily be connected to/disconnected from a microtip. Microtips are useful for invasive measurements, for example, in muscle, and can be inserted into tissue through a 22 G/0.6 I.D. cannula. For mouse skulls, the microtips should be glued to the surface. Please contact Perimed for “Instructions for Use”.

CONSUMABLES FOR PROBES

Probe Holders and fixation tape

Perimed offers a wide range of probe holders for various probes and purposes. Probes and probe holders are usually fixed to the skin using double-sided tape and will remain fixed to the skin only for a maximum of some hours.

Perimed double-sided tapes are medical grade. The materials used have been tested over many years and are assessed and documented according to ISO 10993-1 guidance and principles. The use of probes, probe holders and sensors has been shown not to have any adverse effects on skin.

PF 1001 Refill Motility Standard

Calibrating the laser Doppler probes with our Motility Standard (PF 1001) before use is absolutely essential. The Motility Standard consists of a colloidal suspension of polystyrene particles.

The Motility Standard should be replaced annually due to possibility of contamination during regular use.

Microtips

Implantable microtips (single-fiber probes of 120 mm or 240 mm in length) can either be sutured or glued in place using a medical-grade cyanoacrylate adhesive. This adhesive can usually be loosened with acetone or a proprietary adhesive remover. However, note that this type of adhesive may cause local tissue damage. Alternatively, the probe can be fitted into a micromanipulator which allows the probe and microtip to be positioned in contact with the tissue in a controlled manner.

STROKE MODEL KIT

Stroke Model Monitor for Mice and Rats

The Stroke Model System is used for simple detection of whether a stroke has been successfully induced in mice and/or rats. Successful middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) is confirmed by real-time monitoring of a ~70% decrease in regional cerebral blood flow.

Specialized kits for rats or mice

For the application on mice, we recommend Master Probe 418 into which a microtip is inserted. The microtip is attached directly to the skull using the glue + accelerator provided in Stroke Model Kit 418. Microtips are available in lengths 120 mm and 240 mm.

For rats, we recommend PROBE 407 which is attached to the skull with probe holder PH 07 using Stroke Model Kit 407.
