tcpO2/tcpCO2 Electrodes

The tcpO2 monitoring equipment PeriFlux System 5000 and the latest generation PeriFlux 6000, make use of high quality tcpO2 and/or tcpCO2 electrodes from Radiometer. Each PeriFlux 6000 can be equipped with 1-8 electrodes and each PeriFlux System 5000 1-4 electrodes. Both single tcpO2 and combination tcpO2/tcpCO2 electrodes may be used. 


E5250 Transcutaneous oxygen electrode

The E5250 electrode from Radiometer is used for O2 measurement and consists of a Clark electrode with a platinum cathode and a silver anode as reference. Upon measurement, the O2 diffuses through the skin and membrane into the electrode where the O2 is reduced, generating a measurable current. The size of the current determines the transcutaneous partial pressure of O2 (tcpO2).

The electrode heats the skin to 37.0-45.0 °C in steps of 0.5 °C to achieve full vasodilatation and to obtain significant tcpO2 measurements.

E5280 Transcutaneous oxygen and carbon dioxide electrode

The E5280 electrode from Radiometer is used for combined and simultaneous O2 and CO2 measurement and contains both a Clark electrode and a Stow-Severinghaus-type electrode. The Stow-Severinghaus-type electrode is a pH solid-state glass electrode. Upon measurement, the CO2 diffuses through the skin and membrane into the pH electrode, where it dissolves forming carbonic acid that changes the pH of the solution, which is measured and converted to the transcutaneous partial pressure of CO2 (tcpCO2).

The electrode heats the skin to 37.0-45.0 °C in steps of 0.5 °C to achieve full vasodilatation and to obtainsignificant tcpO2 measurements.


TC 550 / TC 555 Fixation rings

Perimed has developed fixation rings to facilitate the attachment of the E5250 (tcpO2) and E5280 (tcpO2/pCO2) electrodes to the skin when monitoring transcutaneous oxygen/carbon dioxide. The rings have a small base diameter allowing for fixation to fingers, toes or other curvatures without risking leakage problems. The TC 555 Fixation Ring Extra Strength has a special glue for better adhesion on patients with "problematic” skin. Fixation rings are delivered in kits together with the TC 560 Contact Liquid.

D826 / D280 Membraning kits

The E5250 (tcpO2) andE5280 (tcpO2/pCO2) electrodes need to be remembraned regularly.  Two membraning kits are available, one for each electrode type. Each kit contains material for 12 remembraning procedures.

TC 510 Calibration gas

The tcpCO2 electrode is calibrated using Calibration Gas TC 510 and the TC 600 Calibration Unit.

The tcpO2 electrode is calibrated with atmospheric air. However, if the oxygen contents of the ambient air deviates from the oxygen content of normal atmospheric air (20.9% O2), TC 510 Calibration Gas may be used.
