HBOT is, however, being used to treat an ever-growing range of conditions like TBI and PTSD, it has been adopted by elite athletes for performance training and the beauty industry as an anti-aging treatment. Such use is termed off-label (not usually covered) or compassionate use of HBOT. practice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-p-regular-font-size\">Patients sit or lie down in a sealed pressure chamber and breathe pure oxygen, which is either pumped into the chamber or fed to the patient via a mask. The pressure in the chamber is increased (up to at least 2 atmospheres), which should raise levels of oxygen in the patient\u2019s lungs, delivering more oxygen in the microcirculation, and in turn more oxygen to tissue \u2014 which can be measured with TcpO2.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"gn-spacer-block pb-5\">\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-h-3-font-size\">Assessing the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-p-regular-font-size\">Because it measures the amount of oxygen diffused through the skin, transcutaneous oxygen pressure (TcpO2) can provide useful insights into the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. TcpO2 can be used in both scenarios.
