These ulcers are a leading cause of hospitalizations and amputations among diabetic patients. Artificially high ABI readings mask the presence of peripheral artery disease (PAD) and lead to an underestimation of blood flow issues in the lower extremities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-p-regular-font-size\">In clinical settings, underdiagnosis can delay necessary interventions and increase the risk of complications like foot ulcers and, ultimately, amputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-p-regular-font-size\">To accurately assess people with diabetes and provide a holistic view of vascular health, traditional ABI can be augmented with a range of additional exams, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-content-justification-left is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-cd2015be wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-content-justification-left is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-03884280 wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-p-regular-font-size\"><strong>Toe-brachial index (TBI)<\/strong> \u2014 which is less affected by calcification than ABI, providing a more reliable measurement for some diabetic patients.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-p-regular-font-size\"><strong>Transcutaneous oxygen (TcpO2)<\/strong> \u2014 not so affected by calcification.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-p-regular-font-size\"><strong>Skin perfusion pressure<\/strong>&nbsp;
