Segmental limb pressure<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Segmental limb pressure measurement is a noninvasive macrocirculation exam for evaluating blood perfusion in the limbs. It helps detect blockages or narrowing, making it invaluable for assessing peripheral artery disease (PAD) and end-stage PAD \u2014 chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI).<\/p>\n\n\n

Segmental limb pressure with PeriFlux 6000<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Segmental limb pressure measurement involves assessing blood pressure at various locations along the limb, such as the thigh, calf, ankle, and toe. Combining it with pulse volume recording (PVR) promotes efficient patient management.<\/p>\n\n\n

Using inflatable cuffs and laser Doppler probes, this technique measures systolic pressures and compares them across segments. Differences between segments help to pinpoint areas of reduced blood flow caused by arterial blockages or narrowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With PeriFlux 6000, it\u2019s possible to measure a total of 12 sites \u2014 toe, ankle, calf, above the knee, thigh, and arm on both the left- and right-hand side of the patient \u2014 in a single session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the lower extremities \u2014 toe, ankle, and calf \u2014 measurements are calculated using a laser Doppler probe placed as distal as possible, usually on the left and right big toe. For upper extremity measurements \u2014 above the knee, thigh, and arm \u2014 the laser Doppler probe is placed on a finger on both the left and right hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each pressure measurement is carried out sequentially, in the same way that you would carry out a standard ankle pressure and ABI, or toe pressure and TBI. The PeriFlux 6000 interface guides you through the process.<\/p>\n\n\n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n\n\n

Interpreting segmental pressure (4-cuff method)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A pressure drop \u2265 20 mmHg [1]<\/a><\/sup> between two adjacent segments shows significant stenoses between them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n\n\n
